Brewing a superior cup of tea...

The following steeping times are for using 1 tsp. of tea leaves for every 8 oz. water.  When water is prepared to proper temperature, the water should be poured onto the leaves instead of dropping the leaves into the water.

Black Tea:  Heat water until 195 degrees F (just prior to boiling), steep for 4 minutes

Green Tea:  Heat water until 175 degrees F (when hot water begins to steam), steep for 3 minutes

Oolong Tea:  Heat water until 195 degrees F (just prior to boiling), steep for 4 minutes

White Tea:  Heat water until 175 degrees F (when hot water begins to steam), steep for 4 minutes

Rooibos Tea:  Heat water until 212 degrees F (boiling), steep 5-7 minutes (depending on desired strength)

Herbal Tea:  Heat water until 212 degrees F (boiling), steep 5-7 minutes (depending on desired   strength)

2. Reduce the amount of sugar and calories in your favorite juice or soft drink by mixing it with brewed tea in equal parts.
3. Soothe sunburned skin and help heal acne by washing with cool brewed tea.

Apart from these re-uses, tea – both the leftover brewed tea and the used tea leaves – can be used to mulch and water many common garden plants, especially roses, leftover brewed tea can be used to flavor cakes, plump dried fruit when baking, and of course, “antique” fabric and paper for various craft projects. Who knew tea was so versatile?
